You can use soapy water to detect a leak, but let's be honest: it's not convenient, and are those bubbles from the soap or from a leak? Moreover, soapy water mainly works for larger leaks, but if you have a super tiny CO2 leak, there's a good chance it won't be noticed with soapy water.
This leak detector is a product also used in the gas industry. The advantage is that it immediately starts to bubble even with the smallest leak. Furthermore, it bubbles much more intensely than soapy water, making it much quicker to notice and seal the leak.
